The most requested financial statement is a “Notice to Reader” or “Compilation” engagement financial statement. This provides management with a full set of financial statements to properly evaluate the financial position and annual results of the business but offers no written assurance by the accountant as to the accuracy of the figures. Typically small businesses with few shareholders or independent stakeholders request this service. These financial statements will consist of a balance sheet, statement of equity, income statement and some limited supporting notes. As no expression of assurance is provided by the accountant, these financial statements are generally used internally, for taxation filings or provided to the other third parties that require no additional assurance.
